棲所生態:
初級淡水魚。喜歡棲息於水流稍急、河底為礫石之河段，性活潑，而善跳躍，以水生昆蟲、小魚、蝦、藻類和水生植物碎屑為食。 
地理分佈:
台灣的特有種，分布於南部及東部的溪流，如曾文溪、高屏溪、卑南溪、秀姑鑾溪、大麻里喉及花蓮溪等流域均可發現。 
漁業利用:
大型食用魚，是水庫放流對象魚，頗具經濟價值。肉質鮮美，煎、煮和紅燒皆宜。
